I like pushing boundaries —Lady Gaga, American singer, actress, record producer and activist
Life finds its purpose, fulfillment and happiness in expanding one’s own boundaries. A leader is one who knows his limitations and pushes the boundaries much far afield. A genius is the one who tries to rise above the common herd while the mediocre stays trapped in his own boundary.
Being bottled by one’s own limitations is not the way forward to growth. If you want to grow alter your limitations by persevering. You could suffer pain, privations and adversity and success has never ever come easy to anyone. What counts is how you climb the mountain; getting down is easy. It is the happiness you gain for your strenuous efforts in climbing the mountain that is seen when you come downhill. The challenge has now given way to joy as you enjoy the descent. Nothing in life was ever had for the asking as there was never a free meal. Be bold and take the first step. And rest is just a matter of attitude.
When challenges are met disappointments are bound to occur. Results may not show up. When boundaries are being pushed to new limits depressing thoughts slowly recede. What was once seen as an impossible walk towards accomplishment now seems fairly tolerable.
Self- limiting beliefs can cripple mentally and physically or both. You could face terrific moment of financial crunch while the trust deficit from people around you could be difficult to bear. Family members may pose you the biggest challenge leading to a severe crisis of confidence. Worse what is at stake is the beliefs and the faith you had in yourself.
How do you then fight this lonely battle? You know nothing succeeds like doing it yourself and moving to the front which makes that much easy to move forward. There are no shortcuts in life except the ones we imagine. It is futile to think somebody else will suffer your pain to benefit you. Why would they? Your destiny is in your hands and you must fight to change it.
During this critical time there is only one go and that is finding a resourceful person as coach, guide or mentor. Let not your limitations cloud your belief and strain your thought. A good coach and a mentor is truly a game changer who helps you to overcome this uphill task. So find the right mentor who can mould you and push you ahead in your growth trajectory. None can equal him or her.
Once your obstacles in opportunities are identified by the mentor his dispassionate assessment will help you to surmount the stumbling blocks one at a time. It does not matter who the mentor is: let him be your boss, a top management person or a friend. Finding out and making him part of life is the essence of developing the true qualities of leadership. And thereby you learn a lesson in tackling the cyclones of life.
