Dr. shailesh Thaker fields questions the way he do training. He listens to the queries much like he watches an incoming question or presenting slides. He never looks to defend or dodge, and he is as expressive with his replies as he is with his live and conducting conference.
Dr. Thaker appeared relaxed yet intense. Excerpts from an interview:

You are the most successful Indian trainer globally. In recent times, you are listed in the top 30 leadership trainers and gurus of the world. Life has changed quite a lot, hasn’t it?

Yes, it has. Especially, it has taken all most 3 decades. I’m just becoming successful in now. In fact, it has taken years of life. It is not over night. Story was initiated from 1989, August.

How do you feel when you find your name in the list of top 30 trainers of world?

It was mixed feelings. Sad and glad. Sad, as it has taken huge efforts and actions and journey. Glad, finally, an Indian make it in the list while staying in India. It was very difficult for me to think of in the list and to remain in the list.. But now, I sort of got used to it and my family has started to understand all these things much better. I know it’s going to be hectic now, but it’s a good change (smiles).

How do you balance passion and family.

I am very professional in what I do in training. Earlier, I used to waste a lot of time on public life, just joking around, wasting time with unproductive activites. Now my priority is to come on time, do the best I can, make the people with whom I have commitments happy and be a total professional on that front, too. I have changed because the kind of work I have done in the past years has also increased. I thought I should get a bit more serious about focusing on finishing [the work] quickly (laughs).

How do you feel as a leadership trainer?

Now I’m growing every day as a trainer and as a person. It has been a lovely journey for me to actually learn all this while conducting training rather than wasting years not focusing on the learning and development and realizing later that I could have done something special. Luckily, I don’t have any regrets now.
How do you compete with others in the list of top 30 gurus.
There is nothing to compare or compete. I have idealized three persons. M.K. GANDHI, Swami VAIVEKANANADA, and J.Krishnamurti. I’ve been unlucky for not born with them work with him, so I don’t feel them actually , but I can make out what amount of pain they all have faced.. I know what they have done to be there. When you haven’t lived with someone and then follow them as ideal person, then you get that weird feeling. But knowing , I know where I stand and I know where they are.

An influence has been absolutely immense. I have had the highest regard for all those senior trainers who have done so well for the country and world, but I haven’t idolized any of them. I have utmost respect for them, all these guys have won hearts of audience. For me, to actually be able to that level , had asked me to develop multi skills in me as trainer, that has had a major impact on audience.

Are you still a work in progress?

My best Is yet to come. You never stop learning. That’s one thing I have learnt from the great man . If you are performing at international level, you might have one year. But others will sort you out [eventually].
We are in the era of learning, un learning, de learning and re learning. Not that only, one has to apply what he had learned. Gaining knowledge is not important. Doing with excellence is everything. I’m pretty sure about my training but, as I said, when you find with same presentations at all audiences, time will find out that the will try to get you out in a particular way, you go to the homework and work out.
Where would you place them in terms of the challenges you faced and satisfaction you derived?
I think the most satisfying would be next moment, not now. I was criticised a lot in the years. [It was said] I can’t be excellent trainer or author., but the soul inside backed me throughout. I did well in my homework, studios, ideas and creativity. , it’s mentally very challenging. For me, to block all that and to actually focus on my performances and get a appreciative feedback is most satisfying.

Have you ever been in the mood of failures?
I was in the zone of failures. The conditions were tough, the days were hard. . I told myself to be tough and throughout my life. I hardly said a word to my life partner. Once my pulse had reached to 256 per minute. One morning, I lost listening skills. I didn’t even look at the anyone, I was looking at the target and focusing on what I had to do. And I think that was one of the most flawless life I have lived so far. I have at attitude to forget past and focus on tomorrow.. I have live till today . I understand power of here and now.
Do you want to declare any management program?
Yes. I do only one live program in a year in Ahmedabad. Right now, it is declare. You can reach to details by visiting websites and download broacher. It is a life changing event. Well, you cannot do all things for everyone but you can do something’s for someone. I am doing it through this program. . I like to focus on the next presentation which I have to present.

A lot of great trainers put a premium on their performances abroad. How important is it for you to perform well outside India?
I do and aim was to perform well outside India on the front of world. That is the bar i set. For an Indian trainer or for one from the subcontinent, [performances abroad] are something that you are measured with. That’s something that has stuck with me.

How do you see technology in training?

None can stay away from technology.,. Online program are going to be future and way of life. You have to update with learn tools and technology. I am using zoom technology now a day. I am launching MDP in the year 2018 so world at large could be benefited. Going to different places and conducting presentation is slowly becoming out dated idea.

Do you see coming live is going to be difficult for you from on wards?

Yes. Now, learner is switching over to technology. Biggest advantage to learner is that he can learn at his time, at his place at his language and at his convenience. He can review presentation couple of times. He is totally free. He is at his ease and absolute comfort level. It is in too much less price. Again , it is most applicable to life, no items are share which cannot be practice and apply in life. Finally, I am doing it for a learner.
