TALENT IS NOT ENOUGH
July 13, 2009
To be successful and to remain successful we need more than talent. Just Innate Talent is not enough.
I came across people around the globe and found out that the people who have talent but never become successful. WHY?
More than 50 percent of CEOs are from ‘C’ level school and colleges.
65 percent of all USA senators are coming from the bottom half of their schools.
75 percent of USA Presidents were in lower half club during their schooling time.
In India, you will find nearly 80 percent assembly members with lower schooling achievements.
In the year 2005, India INC. has gone for the study of CEOs academics. Out off first 100 companies, 95 CEOs were found members of lower club achievements during their college days. Most of the millionaires never finished college education.
What it proves?
Only talent never makes us successful. As long as world exists, we may find multi-talents. But, only talent cannot make you successful.
I would like to give you some example …Salman Khan, Boris Becker, Shoaib Haider, Muhammad Azharuddin, Shane Warne, Symonds and many more…..This list is showing super talent. But, they are not the behavioral models. WHY?
Talent plus attitude and values has tremendous impact in life. To create ever lasting impression we need attitude and values.
Julia Roberts, Sachin Tendulkar, Graham Grower, Churchill, Martin Luther King, M.K. Gandhi, Roger Federer and many more are the examples of talent plus.
These star performers have ability to be successful, to digest success and to sustain success.
What is that extra ability?
In my view, it is great attitude and values. We need excellent state of mind. We need open mind and positive state of mind in all the situations of life. We cannot move ahead with rigidness and reluctant attitude. We should also watch our attitude for time, goals, life, people, habits, work and hobby. We must minutely check our attitude. We can ask people who are very close to them in life at personal and professional level. We can definitely improve ourselves.
We need certain principles. How can we move forward without principles in life? Gandhi moved ahead with Non-Violence and Truth. Buddha moved ahead with Love. SaiBaba lived with the two principles faith and patience.
What values we are carrying in our lives? We cannot live life without such values. We cannot have success at the cost of principles. In my views, you may have success but it won’t be ever lasting success and it will never create an ever lasting impression in the society.
I would like to conclude today’s Monday Wisdom with the message that: Talent + attitude + values make all the difference. Only talent is not enough but to maximize the potentiality we all have to focus on attitude and values. To be a legendary successful person we have to be a behavioral model, so generations after our death follow us as the behavioral model.
